NCEF received an invitation from Abilene Christian University to come
to its campus and present information about our work in Nepal. The event was organized by the
International Student Association. It was scheduled for September 30,
2010. Our new member, SagarMarahatta, gave a short presentation and fielded
the questions from the audience. Over
fifty students and faculty members attended the
presentation.
The
presentation covered many topics such as the goal of NCEF, its path to
success, the profile of its students, and its finances. Sagar also talked about the new
campaigns that the fund is running including the organization’s
social outreach program on Facebook. The
presentation attracted much interest among the crowd with a few
students seeking volunteering opportunities. The school has invited
NCEF for future participation in similar events.

Chitwan district in Central South Naryani was recently selected to become an NCEF area of concentration. Mr. Ram Prasad Sharma was appointed to become the Area Coordinator for this new area, and he was specifically assigned to start with Chandivanjyang VDC in Kalikhola, Chitwan.
Kalikhola is situated in the Mahabharata mountain range and it is home to about half of the Chepang population of Nepal. Kalikhola is one of the least developed communities in the country. This lack of development is mainly because of Kalikhola’s inaccessibility caused by the rugged terrain. Chandivanjyang is accessible only by foot from the nearest highway, the Naryangarh-Muglin Highway , which is about an hour and half’s walk from the village.

NCEF saw a need to direct some of its efforts towards Kalikhola in order to assist the economically marginalized Chepang population. NCEF decided that it will support a selected group of financially challenged students from Chandivanjyang. The estimated amount of aid required to support each child for an academic year amounts to US$65, and this total figure includes tuition, two pairs of school uniforms, and stationery.
The New Area Committee picked Mr. Sharma to head the Kalikhola project after considering his good attributes. Mr. Sharma is a well reputed school teacher who is passionate about education. Mr. Sharma will work together with a team of five volunteers to try to improve the educational situation in Chandivanjyang.
NCEF has awarded scholarship to three students in Chitwan. Suresh, Laxman, and Amrita were selected on the basis of financial need.
