Happy Holidays and Highlights from NCEF CEO Omprakash Gnawali.

Our annual year-end letter from NCEF CEO Omprakash Gnawali containing all the highlights, hard work and accomplishments of 2016

Omprakash Gnawali, CEO NCEF

December 14, 2016

Dear friends:

It is our pleasure to share with you how our children are using the opportunity for education during the year, enabled by the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, and directly supported by gifts you generously give to NCEF.

During the 2016-2017 academic year (which ends in April 2017), we are providing financial assistance to a total of 87 students in Gorkha, Kavre, Nawalparasi, Nepalgunj, Patan, Sankhuwasabha, and Sunsari. Last year we provided support to 62 students. This big increase in the number of students is due to our expansion of coverage to several new locations across Nepal. Expanding to new locations requires the identification of reliable volunteers in addition to rigorous evaluation of the need, volunteer ability, and community interest in the area.

63% of our students are girls. 93% of our students are outside Kathmandu valley. This is possible only due to our steadfast commitment to serve both populations first and foremost.

During the year, there were many opportunities for the US-based volunteers and Nepal-based volunteers to meet in person, exchange notes, and plan better collaborations. I got a chance to meet Mr. Hari Tripathi, our program director in Nepal, and discuss ways to further improve coordination across our different locations. Maheshwor Kafle organized a volunteer meeting to discuss plans for next year when he visited Nepal in October. Over the years, such interactions have brought the volunteers, who are separated by distance, ever closer in their shared vision and commitment to the future of children in Nepal.

Let me also take this opportunity to share updates on how you have been part of the assistance to the earthquake victims, with a focus on the education sector. The recovery from the 2015 earthquakes continues in Nepal. We had the opportunity to help Bloom Nepal School replace destroyed furniture. I got a chance to personally visit Bloom Nepal School earlier this year and see how your gift has enabled the students there to once again have access to the basic furniture needed for school work. This academic year, we are supporting five students in Kavre; one of the worst hit areas in Nepal.

We rely on your generous financial support to make our work possible. We provide financial assistance to our children until they complete high school education as long as they are in-need financially and meet the basic academic performance requirement. Long term commitment is at the core of our mission. We also continue to look for new locations where students could use our assistance to attend school.

This holiday season, please consider sending the gift of education to these children in Nepal. You can donate online at http://www.nepalchildren.org/donation.html or send a check to:

As long as you mail your check by December 31, 2016, it will count towards donations for tax year 2016. NCEF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and has no salaries or office expenses, so each child benefits directly from your donation.

Wishing you a good holiday season,

Happy Holidays from NCEF!

From everyone here at NCEF we would like to wish all our donors, volunteers, students, and executives the happiest of holidays this season. It has been our great pleasure to share with you the successes and developments of 2016 with regards to all the hard work done by the NCEF community. Throughout the year, these newsletters have shared exactly the kind of wonderful opportunities made available to our students and their communities. Without the generosity of donors such as yourselves, this amazing work would not be possible. On behalf of our students and the entire NCEF family, we wish you very happy holidays and a wonderful New Year. Thank you for all that you do!
