Our annual year-end letter from NCEF CEO Omprakash Gnawali containing all the highlights, hard work and accomplishments of 2018

Dear friends:

We are supporting 107 students this year. This is the largest number of students we have supported in a given academic year. These students rely on our financial support for books, supplies, school uniforms, and other academic expenses. Although the tuition is largely free or almost free in many public schools in Nepal, there are many academic and non-academic fees the students are expected to cover on their own so that schooling is still a financially challenging proposition for many families in Nepal.

We expanded our work to new places in Nepal! This year we are providing financial assistance to students in Lamjung and Bajura in addition to our continued work in Sunsari, Nepalgunj, Sankhuwasabha, Nawalparasi, and Gorkha. Bajura is in far western Nepal where almost everyone does subsistence farming for a living, and horses are widely used for transportation due to lack of reliable roads. About two-thirds of the people are from disadvantaged groups in the area in Lamjung where we started our work. We look forward to many years of helping the students in these and more areas in Nepal.

We support expanding opportunities to different places and people. All of our supported students are outside of Kathmandu from Eastern Nepal to Western Nepal, and from the plains in the south to the mountains in the north. Among our supported students are students with disabilities, who would have found it difficult to stay in school without our support. Out of a total of 107 students, 56% are girls.

We rely on your generous financial support to make this work possible. Our goal is to continue providing financial assistance and support to our students until they complete their high school education. Long-term commitment is at the core of our mission, and we will continue to look for new areas and groups where our work can make the biggest impact in these children's lives.
