Namaste (and Hello) to Students and Volunteers in Kavre

We are excited to share our new work in Kavre district. We supported a number of students in this area from the mid 2000s until all of the supported students graduated grade 12 in 2013. We are excited to announce that we are now back in Kavre sponsoring students.

Kavre is a hilly district not far from Kathmandu. The area faces a lot of challenges in transportation, health, and education. Destruction from the Nepal earthquakes of 2015 has made progress in these sectors even more difficult. However, there are signs of improvement; Kathmandu University, a Kavre-based major university, and its associated teaching hospital are powering the local economy and services in Kavre.

Ms. Shrinkhala Shrestha is the area coordinator for Kavre. She has a day job at Dhulikhel Hospital community services department and helps out with our work through their outreach centers. The outreach centers are designed to become a comprehensive community resource in collaboration with a nearby school.

For the 2016-2017 academic year, we have selected five students from Shivalaya high school. The students come from economic backgrounds which may cause them to drop out to help at home and support the family. The selected students have shown good academic promise. 

Together with the support from our friends and supporters, we are committed to providing financial support so students may complete high school without having to worry about expenses for school fees, books, supplies, or a school uniform. We are excited for what lies ahead in their future. Some of them may become doctors. Some engineers. Some public servants. But all of them productive citizens of Nepal, and the world!
